Query/Synopsis Resources

Advice on querying:

  • Query Shark: Janet Reid is a literary agent, on her blog 'Query Shark' she critiques query's to help writers know what they are doing wrong. There is a wealth of information on this site about how to right a good query letter, so read, read, read and you will learn a lot!
  • If you don't have enough time to sift through each query letter to learn the valuable lessons from Janet Reid above (though I recommend doing it!) you can get a summary of lessons learnt here: What I learned from Query Shark - by Brigid Gorryhines
  • The First Five Frenzy: http://chasingthecrazies.wordpress.com/the-f3/. Ever wanted to know what an agent is looking for in those first five pages? The FFF is a series of agent interviews that helps aspiring writers understand what works and what doesn't for those first five pages that you have to submit. Agents reveal what catches their attention, what draws them in and encourages them to request more of your MS.
  • Writers digest - Successful Queries: you can peruse over sixty successful query letters which are reviewed by agents who explain why they liked them.
